Lava has launched a new medium level Android phablet in Indian market. It is coded as Lava Iris 550Q. With the very first look it appears to be a decent quality phablet that is equipped with right quality processor, screen and other things. Best thing about this medium level phablet is its price tag. It is launched for Rs. 13,000 only which puts it in a healthy competition with phablets from Micromax and Karbonn.

It spots a 5.5 inch screen with 1280x720 pixels resolution and IPS OGS screen coating. It runs on Android 4.2 Jellybean OS and is powered by a quad core processor having 1 GB RAM. This smartphone is enough capable of competing with giants like MMX Canvas HD, Canvas 4 and Doodle even (with its price to value factor). The only thing that can disappoint you here is its OS which seems to be little out-dated (means today we are seeing most of Android 4.3 and 4.4 KitKat devices). I am myself using Android 4.2 and 4.3 Jellybean on different smartphones. Both are good and you will not face any problems/issues with Android 4.2 iteration.
It comes with 8 MP rear and 2 MP front facing cameras. Both the lenses are good and will capture high quality pictures. Being a 3G smartphone it can be used for making video calls. It shoots videos with full HD resolution.
It carries 4 GB ROM chip that can be extended to 32 GB with normal SD card. Connectivity features are all same that you can find in any other smartphone.
It equips a 2600 mAh battery that offers 10 hours peak talk time with normal 2G network. Talk time will be less with 3G variant.

Talking in a nutshell then according to me it can act as a perfect solution for all the mobile vendors who are looking for buying a low cost quality smartphone with good processor, big screen and reliable hardware. Talking about alternatives then MMX canvas HD A116 seems to be its biggest rival that too comes with similar specs and almost similar price tag. That carries a 5 inch screen and equips better cameras. It is up to you whether you want to go for 550Q or Canvas Hd. Both are good at their respective ends.
