Asus FonePad with Intel processor and SIM port: a review

Today at MWC, Asus has lineup one more gadget in their timeline. After launching PadFone Infinity a tablet/phablet hybrid combo, they have launched an Intel powered voice calling 7 inch tablet which is coded as Asus FonePad. Here I am going to discuss all about its features and unique things which can do wonders with its selling’s.

Asus is a globally known trusted tech firm. Talking about Asus in India then I have not seen any of their offices, support staff etc in around my hometown but I am sure that they have better coverage in popular cities like Delhi, Mumbai etc. But if your case is similar to me i.e. no Asus offices nearby then please don’t go for it as it may put you in trouble with every new damages.

Asus FonePad features
It houses a standard 7 inch screen with 1280x800 pixels resolution. It runs on Android 4.1 JB OS. It is similar to that fitted in PadFone Infinity. Android 4.1 comes with better transitions and butter screen. It runs on Intel Atom Z2420 processor which is clocked at 1.2GHz frequency and is based on Lexington platform. Its processor is supported by 1GB RAM and PowerVR GC540 GPU. The same processor was equipped in Lava Xolo handset which was first Intel powered phone.

It comes with 3MP rear, 1.2 MP front facing camera which can shoot videos at 720p rate. It comes in two memory variants 16 GB and 32 GB with sd card slot. 1.2 MP ff camera can also be used as a webcam for all face chatting apps. Its main attraction is its SIM support. It can be operated similar to a mobile phone through which you can make calls to your loved ones.

Till now, no connectivity and battery specs are unveiled but it is supposed to have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, micro USB connectivity slots and 2000 mAh + battery.

So Asus FonePad comes with:
• 7 inch screen
• Intel 1.2 GHz processor
• Calling feature
• 3MP rear, 1.2 MP front camera
• 16 GB, 32 GB memory variants

Price and availability
According to Asus, they will first launch FonePad in Europe during April 2013. Sadly there were no words about global porting and price but I think they will port PadFone to different countries by the end of 2013. In Europe, it will cost approx. $249 which is equal to Rs. 16,000 approx. in India.

In India, if you have a budget of 16K for a 7 inch tablet then wait and check out for MMX A116. It comes with 5 inch screen and quad core processor. It can be a good option especially at this cost.
